Cockroaches have been on the Earth for two hundred and fifty million years. cockroaches are
widely distributed pests that are annoying and when abundant. They are also destructive.
Cockroaches destroy food. damage fabrics. Book binding and other materials .when
cockroaches run over food they leave filth and may spread diseases.
Type of cockroaches
The three most common types of cockroaches requiring control are the german cockroaches
requiring control are the German cockroach, American cockroaches and broun banded
cockroaches.
The German Cockroach
The Garman cockroaches (Blattella germanica) is a relatively small cockroach to co-exist
with man in buildings. it is the most prolific breeder of all the pest cockroaches and there may
be 3-4 generation per year.
This cockroach seeks conditions that provide warmth. Moisture and food. The vast majority
of infestation are associated with kitchens or other food- handling areas. their small cracks
and crevices. And its prolific breeding capacity allows it to build up large population quickly.
The American Cockroach
The American cockroach (periplaneta Americana) is a large cockroach. It is a common
inhabitant of the outdoors and very wet situation such as sewage system. The American
cockroach is found most commonly In restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and places where
food is prepared or stored. During the summer months, alley ways and years may bebadly
infested.
Brown-banded cockroach
Found in homes, it looks very much like a german cockroach
Ants : Commonly found in homes (especially small red, black and ghost ants), they swarm around
leftover, split food or drink and form trails back to their nest. Some ants cause painful bites and stings.
Ants are fast becoming a major pest
Rodent control
Rats and mice make themselves comfortable in human sorroundings, finding food and
shelter in our homes. They breed repidly and contaminate food, damage clothes and other
materials. They spread diseases such as plague, leptospirosis, murine typhus and rat bite
fever.
House mouse
Smallest of the rodent found in homes, brown to grey in colour. It prefers
the ground level; and can make nests in sofas, uipholstery, old files, insulation etc.
Roof rats
Slightly larger than the house mouse, dark brown to black in colour. It prefers
higher areas such as false ceiling and rafters, where it makes nests. Very cautious by
nature, it shies away from new objects.
Indian bandicoot rat
The largest of Indian rats, it is found near garbage biins and refuse
collection areas. It lives in borrows, often excavated in footbath tiles and cincrete. It also
spreads diseases such as plague and leptospirosis.
